Cavern and Cave diving in the cenotes: a unique world
Be guided by the most experienced guides to enjoy your cenote cavern dive (for Open Water or above certifications), or take the step into the Cave world and join us for a course.
What is Cavern Diving and What certification do I need?
Cavern diving means that you will always see the light from outside. You only need a recreational diving certification like Open Water Diver or above.
What we teach: the IANTD Course
Sidemount PADI / IANTD.
The purpose of this course is too:
Familiarize the diver with the techniques, equipment and mindset required for Sidemount diving.
Enable divers to proficiently assemble and use Sidemount equipment.
Teach divers the proper techniques to safely conduct dives that warrant the use of Sidemount equipment.
Prerequisites:
- Must be qualified as an Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent.
- Have a minimum of 25 logged dives.
- Be proficient in bouyancy skills.
- Minimum age 18.
Equipment Requirements:
- IANTD Sidemount Student Kit.
- Two (2) single cylinders (7 litres or larger)
- Two (2) primary reguakltors. Each must provide ample gas flow at all depths. Each gas source must have its own dedicated submersible pressure guage.
- A primary BCD. A backup BCD is required if the student cannot maintain bouyancy in the event of a bladder failure. If a dry suit is used, it may serve as the backup BCD.
- Dive table, depth guage, dive timer or a dive computer and cutting device.
- Basic diving equipment, mask, fins, and exposure suit suitable for conditions at the training site(s).
Cavern IANTD:
- The IANTD Cavern program is designed to train the diver in the equipment, skills and procedures required to safely and competently dive in the overhead environment of a cavern The IANTD Cavern program trains the diver in the basic skills needed to safely dive in an overhead environment.
- The main focus points of the program require equipment configuration, line drills and use of line reels and developing self sufficiency and safety through skills development.
- Prerequisites:
- Must be a qualified as an Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent.
- Must provide proof of a minimum of 10 dives.
- Must be a minimum of 15 years of age with a parent or guardian authorisation, or a minimum of 18 years of age without guardian approval.
- Equipment Requirements:
- IANTD Cavern Student Kit.
- A dual-outlet cylinder is recommended.
- A 1 metre long hose is required - a 2 metre long hose is recommended.
- A primary reel and/or safety reel.
- Two lights.
Intro to Cave IANTD:
For Sport Divers looking for an introduction to the world of cave diving, the IANTD Introductory Cave Diver program is the perfect place to start.
The IANTD Introductory Cave Diver program is designed to develop the divers' skills to allow diving beyond the cavern zone of cave overhead environment. It introduces the diver to self sufficiency skills utilising isolation manifold twin sets and dual outlet cylinders, line following, line laying and emergency procedures. The program can be run as a continuous course in conjunction with the IANTD Cavern Diver program.
IANTD Introductory Cave Divers are qualified to dive on the main line of caves within the safe limits of their gas supply. Divers trained in the use of doubles are qualified to use them within the cave environment providing the rule of 1/6ths is strictly adhered to. CCR divers are trained to the range of a 4 litre bailout.
Prerequisites:
- Must be qualified as an IANTD Overhead Environment Diver or equivalent.
- Must provide proof of a minimum of 25 logged dives or sufficient experience.
- Must be a minimum of 15 years of age with a parent or guardian authorisation, or a minimum of 18 years of age without guardian approval.
Equipment Requirements:
- IANTD Cave Diver Student Kit.
- All bottom mix tanks must be equipped with dual-outlet (H or Y) valves or double tanks, which may be either side-mounted or with dual orifice manifold.
- A 1.5 - 2 metre long hose must be attached to one second stage on the primary gas supply.
- A primary reel and a safety reel.
- One primary light and two backup lights.
Full Cave:
- The IANTD Full Cave Diver program is designed to take the diver through all training necessary to plan and conduct dives in the Cave diving environment. Throughout the program, the emphasis is placed on developing the diver's equipment configuration, buoyancy control and propulsion techniques to enable safe and efficient cave dives to be made. Line following, line laying and use of reels are covered extensively as are safety skills such as gas shares and light failure drills. A major part of the course is the development of team diving procedures and communication.
- Prerequisites:
- Must be qualified as an IANTD Introductory Cave Diver or equivalent. If not, must have proof of 100 dives or sufficient experience doing technical dives to satisfy the instructor that the student has the ability and knowledge to continue into this level of training.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Equipment Requirements:
- IANTD Cave Diver Student Kit.
- Fulfill general equipment requirements for technical diver programs.
- Two primary reels and a safety reel.
- Three line arrows and three non-directional markers.
- One primary light and two backup lights.
Technical Cave IANTD:
Technical Cave Diver – Open Circuit
- Must be qualified IANTD Introductory to Cave Diver or higher or equivalent.
- Must be qualified as IANTD Advanced EANx or Higher or equivalent.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
- Must proof of a minimum of 50 logged Dives. OR
- If not qualified as Introductory to Cave Diver – Must have proof of 100 dives or sufficient experience doing technical dives to satisfy the instructor that the student has the ability and knowledge to continue into this level of training
This level of training is the natural complement for the Cave Diver course, dedicated to those divers who dives in caves where a decompression is required before to surface.
Minimum 2 full days: lectures, confined water session, 2 cave dives.
The students learn the techniques and equipment necessary to perform a decompression stop after a long or deep dive in cave environment.
Primary concerns are based on accurate dive plans, safety procedures and cave conservation.
The training can be performed either with classic double tank back mounted or with sidemount equipment.
Prerequisites:
- Student must be qualified as Cave Diver
- Student must be qualified as Advanced Nitrox Diver
- 18 years old
